Have you ever had grass fed beef or heritage breed pork? Although we are pretty big carnivores in my house, I’d never indulged in these goodies until last week when my Butcher Box arrived in the mail.
Disclosure: I received a free Butcher Box in exchange for my honest review.
In my quest to make all the things easier in my life, I tried out a Butcher Box. Because November is always crazy busy and the thought of having delicious groceries show up at my door sounded wonderful! So the nice folks at Butcher Box agreed to help me out.
Our box arrived well packed and protected. The meat was vacuum sealed and hard as a rock with 11 pounds of dry ice to keep everything frozen.
Here I am unboxing my Butcher Box.
Butcher Box is a subscription service that delivers amazing, humanely raised grass-fed beef, heritage breed pork and organic pastured chicken right to your doorstep. You can also get other meat-lovers’ delights like steaks, bacon and breakfast sausage.
My ButcherBox arrived with the following contents:
- Grass-fed ground beef
- Sirloin tips
- Pork chops
- Uncured sugar-free bacon
- Boneless chicken thighs
- Thin-sliced beef
Each ButcherBox also contains recipes by gourmet chefs to help you enjoy your meat.
So far, we’ve enjoyed the pork chops (SO delicious!), the thin-sliced beef (slow cooker broccoli beef – yum!) and the bacon (divine). The ground beef is on the menu for this weekend.
How did our ButcherBox taste?
Fantastic! The pork chops were incredibly juicy, the bacon was decadent, and the beef melted in your mouth. All in all, it was delicious.
Is a ButcherBox enough for an entire month?
A box contains about 10 pounds of meat. For my family of meat-eaters, this is sadly definitely not enough, but with some ground turkey and a couple more packages of chicken, we will be good to go. If you eat less meat, this may be just right for your family.
Is a ButcherBox subscription worth it?
The prices on a ButcherBox are definitely better than my local store prices for high-quality meat. If you’re eating out at restaurants a lot, a ButcherBox wins hands down. And don’t forget the free shipping and the convenience factor.
Were there any downsides?
Not really. I would have liked to see more recipes in the box. I had to do a little searching to decide what to do with the thin sliced beef. But it’s easy enough to find recipes, so that wasn’t a problem.
The ButcherBox meat is more expensive than what I usually purchase, but that’s because I don’t typically buy such high-quality meat. I think it was actually quite reasonably priced for its value. And there’s something to be said for eating higher quality foods in smaller quantities.
